One Modification Could Greatly Reduce Head and Spine Injuries in Football Players

Head and Spine Injuries in Football PlayersI think this is a fascinating article which bring up valid concerns, especially for our younger athletes. As a team physician, and coach, I have tried to teach young football players the importance of heads up tackling and the harmful effects of “helmet tackles” and impacts to the skull and brain. Despite these efforts, most coaches still agree that we still see too much tackling in football leading with the head. Perhaps helmet less practicing drills, can retrain our young athletes to better protect their brains from the serious adverse effects of repetitive concussive injuries. Thanks for a great article to continue discussion on this important matter of athletic safety for our youth.
